Native Flowers of New Zealand by Georgina Hetley

Native Flowers of New Zealand by Georgina Hetley

Georgina Burne Hetley, an early botanical artist used her talent to capture both the beauty and scientific details of New Zealand’s flora.

Ever adventurous, Georgina was able to travel throughout New Zealand revelling, not only in the wonderfully diverse botanical treasures discovered, but in the scenery as well.

In 1886, Georgina travelled to London to find a publisher for her proposed book and to exhibit her paintings. Her book “The Native Flowers of New Zealand” was published in three parts in1887-88, and as a single volume in 1888.

View the large selection of Hetley's work on display in the Malden Gallery on the MTG's first floor.
