Ercan Cairns is young and inspiring Auckland based artist of Māori (Tūhoe), Tongan (‘Utungake and Tu’anuku, Vava’u) and of German descent.
His creative process is incredibly intuitive with freedom, energy and focus.
Ercan is influenced by American Abstract artists and adopts as they do, he does. The marks and forms are made from the movement of the whole body and emotion of the subconscious allowing the paint to flow on the surface. Forms being the idea of body and soul.
Citing powerhouse influences such as Picasso, Basquiat, Willem de Kooning, Matisse, and David Aspden. Ercan has also been mentored by modern Pacific artists including his mother, Dagmar Dyck, Andy Leleisi'uao, and Fatu Feu'u.
