Parks and reserves
Hastings has more than 160 reserves and open spaces, ranging from city, neighbourhood and rural playgrounds, sports fields and parks, to natural green spaces and road reserves. There are more than 55 hectares of sports fields, 185 hectares of reserves, 160 hectares of domains, 10 hectares of gardens and shrub beds, and some 8000 trees.
Thirty two of our parks have playgrounds on them, from small neighbourhood play spaces to the district's three major play parks: Flaxmere Park, The Village Green in Havelock North, and Cornwall Park in Hastings. The playgrounds page has links to all of the district play spaces where you can find out how to find them and about the facilities at each one.
Thirteen of the reserves have dedicated sports fields, catering for a wide range of codes. from the traditional: football, rugby, cricket, rugby league, touch rugby and softball, to the specialised: ki-o-rahi, disc golf, skating, marching and BMX. The sports ground page has links to those parks that include marked sports fields with maps showing the summer and winter configurations.
Our parks and reserves are great places for picnics and BBQs. You are able to bring your BBQ to a public park so long as:
- It's a gas BBQ
- The fire status allows it (visit FENZ website)
- You clean up before you leave
A booking is required where more than 10 people will be attending the BBQ.
