Stoneycroft Reserve

Stoney Croft ReserveStoneycroft Reserve is home to the historic Stonycroft Homestead - a Victorian-styled colonial house. Built in 1875, Stoneycroft was originally the town house of Taihape Road farmer, W J Birch. Hastings District Council purchased the homestead and surrounding land and gardens in 2005 in recognition of its historical importance and its location at the gateway to Hastings.

Stoneycroft is now the site of the Knowledge Bank, which assists in preserving the past for the future, by means of computerising pictures, film, biographies and oral histories of Hawke’s Bay. It is also home to the Lily Baker Library, which includes a collection of important records that have been accumulated by Hawke’s Bay genealogists over a long period of time.

The homestead is registered as a Category II Historic Building by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
