Putting more wow into our city centre draws us all in to enjoy our public spaces. Hastings Alive, an initiative which draws together a number of city centre-focused plans, adds vibrancy and fun to the heart of Hastings, building pride and enjoyment, and supporting our local businesses. From street improvements to art and events, there is something for everyone!
Helping to put that wow into the city centre are the 23 street improvement projects in the Hastings City Centre Revitalisation Plan, a main contributor to Hastings Alive. They were developed after consultation with stakeholders and the wider community in 2018.
As well as those infrastructure projects – improving our streets, pocket parks, laneways and pedestrian links, outdoor-eating spaces and the look and feel of our central city - it recommends the introduction of an activation officer, charged with bringing the wow factor into our city spaces: fun, interactive installations, street art, games and performance.
Hastings Alive dovetails with other plans and projects, including traffic and parking plans making our city easier to move around, and public engagement plans letting everyone know what is happening and when, and encouraging our people to enjoy our city: working, shopping and playing.
The infrastructure projects are staged over five years. All are below:
