  • Alignment significance:  The feasibility of bridge designs is intricately tied to the chosen alignment of the new bridge. Each alignment concept, will carry substantial implications, and guidance from mana whenua is of utmost importance, irrespective of the perspective taken.
  • Land acquisition: Alignments may require land acquisition as part of the project.
  • Co-design process: The bridge design will adhere to a co-design process, involving collaboration with mana whenua, in accordance with the Te Aranga design principles.
  • Flood scheme and network planning: The design of this bridge crossing is closely intertwined with the outcomes of the Hawke's Bay Regional Council (HBRC) future flood scheme and broader network planning efforts.
  • Shared ownership: It's important to note that this bridge is jointly owned by both Hastings District Council and Napier City Council.
