Hastings has more than 160 reserves and open spaces, ranging from city, neighbourhood and rural playgrounds, sports fields and parks, to natural green spaces and road reserves. There are more than 55 hectares of sports fields, 185 hectares of reserves, 160 hectares of domains, 10 hectares of gardens and shrub beds, and some 8000 trees.
Of our 191 parks and reserves, about 38 have playgrounds on them. Our parks range from small neighbourhood play spaces to the district's three major play parks: Flaxmere Park, The Village Green in Havelock North, and Cornwall Park in Hastings. The playgrounds page has links to all of the district play spaces.
Thirteen of the reserves have dedicated sports fields, catering for a wide range of codes. from the traditional: football, rugby, cricket, rugby league, touch rugby and softball, to the specialised: ki-o-rahi, disc golf, skating, marching and BMX.
