Survivor Experiences Service

Survivor Experiences Service

The Survivor Experiences Service is for people who have been abused in care. This includes state, faith-based, or other forms of care (e.g., private schools, non-governmental organizations).

The Service is currently available to rangatahi aged 18+ who would like to share their experiences. While people who are younger than 18 cannot directly share their experiences with us, we can still support you in other ways - we have extensive networks and relationships with rangatahi community organisations and are happy to facilitate introductions with them.
Our aim is to ensure anyone who needs a safe place to tell their stories has one.

Programmes offered

We offer two services for survivors and whānau: sharing experiences of abuse in care, and records support.

In sharing your experiences, we aim to provide a space that can support healing for survivors of abuse in care, allowing their experiences to be heard, validated and acknowledged. We provide fully accessible short-term wellbeing support for survivors to help them share their experiences. We can also help with referrals to other support services where needed.

We also offer support for people who have been abused in care to request, receive, and understand care records.
