Popular Al Fresco Friday event returns in February

alfresco3med

Hastings city centre was pumping at the first Al Fresco Friday in Hastings city centre at the end of January, and the streets will come alive again on February 28 for the second event to see out the summer.

Up to 2000 people descended on Heretaunga St East and surrounds on January 31 to taste and sip the bounty of delicious offerings presented by local eateries and bars, while relaxing both outdoors and in on a beautiful summer evening.

With the street closed to traffic between Hastings Street and Karamu Road – tables, chairs and beanbags took over creating a vibrant, car-free space filled with dining, entertainment, and summer vibes.

More than 12 local eateries served delicious Al Fresco meals, some with special dishes on offer for the event, and live entertainment rounded out the event that celebrated Hastings summer and the city centre’s hospitality providers.

Craft & Social Bar and Eatery owner Damon McGinnis said the popularity of last month’s event boded well for the next one.

“The first Al Fresco Friday was a great success for us - the street looked fantastic, and guests loved the experience of dining on the street."

For anyone that missed out, or those who’d like to do it all over again, a second Al Fresco Friday is being held on February 28.

Again, people can either grab a takeaway from the many great options, or book a table at their favourite eatery like Sazio, OTT in the City, Craft & Social, Fun Buns and Cellar 495, or indulge in dessert from Rush Munro’s Ice Creamery or Long Island Delicatessen - there’s something for everyone.

Other options include pairing a takeaway with a bottle of wine from Decibel in their specially extended licensed outdoor area or explore the food trucks serving up more tasty options.

Punters wanting a more relaxed vibe can bring a picnic blanket and park up in Albert Square, or head over to the Tribune Precinct to enjoy outdoor dining at Rosie O’Grady’s or soak in live music at Brave Brewing.

The event will run rain or shine, so bring friends, family, and an appetite for a memorable night out.
