Draft Waste Management and Minimisation bylaw open for feedback

 Hastings District Council is inviting public feedback on the Draft Waste Management and Minimisation Bylaw 2025.

The proposed bylaw is designed to improve how waste is managed across the district and to support ongoing efforts to reduce what goes to landfill.

The draft bylaw explicitly sets out the rules for kerbside collections, refuse transfer stations and public rubbish and recycling bins. It also covers requirements for other waste service providers.

Until now, waste management has been regulated under the Hastings District Council Consolidated Bylaw.

A standalone bylaw is now proposed to better reflect the goals of the newly drafted joint Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) and provide clearer, more effective rules for managing waste.

Community feedback is important to ensure the bylaw works for Heretaunga Hastings and supports more effective waste reduction.

Submissions close at 5pm on Sunday 22 June.
