Public art plays an important role in the cultural life of the community, by giving expression and energy to public places and transforming a place of functionality into one that inspires, moves and challenges people.
Hastings District Council has long had a strong commitment to supporting the arts in the community, encouraging a culture of creativity and innovation to promote a sense of community, civic pride, and to express our unique identity. Art is an important way to celebrate the whakapapa and history of our cultural heritage and experience. Public artworks include major pieces commissioned by Hastings District Council, artist-designed elements integrated into Council developments, or community-led projects such as murals or temporary installations.
Public art works including sculpture, murals, carvings and installations can be found all around our district.
