Toi-tū Hawke's Bay

A strategic framework to support creatives and creativity in Hawke's Bay

Toi-Tū Hawke’s Bay - Arts Culture and Events Strategy

Toi-Tū Hawke’s Bay is a framework to guide development of current and future arts, culture, and creative strategy and projects within Hawke's Bay. Through collaboration, projects and partnerships it aims to align collective effort across sectors and disciplines towards a common vision and community outcomes.

It has been developed in response to the many voices of the Hawke's Bay creative sector, what matters to them most, and what matters to the community, not just for now, but for future generations.

It is not a prescriptive implementation plan, rather it leaves the door open to possibility, expecting individuals, groups and entities to determine how they can implement the framework through what they do, where they do it, and how they do it.

Arts, Culture and Events Recovery Plan

In July 2020 the Hastings District Council adopted the Arts Culture and Event Recovery Plan.

COVID-19 changed how the New Zealand arts, culture and events industry operated and the Arts, Culture & Events Recovery Plan aimed to ensure the sector was well supported, and to respond quickly to the Toi-tū Strategic Framework that was adopted by the council last year

The plan focused on delivering events, performances, installations and exhibitions for our community to enjoy and feel part of a vibrant and exciting future for our district and our region.

It aimed to develop, produce and present opportunities for our community and local artists that would normally have been filled by national and international touring productions, exhibitions, installations and events. Funding went towards events such as Matariki and the Big Apple Project.
