Stoneycroft Reserve

Image of Stoney Croft Homestead.

Stoneycroft Reserve is home to the historic Stonyecroft Homestead - a Victorian-styled colonial house. Built in 1875, Stoneycroft was originally the town house of Taihape Road farmer, W J Birch. Hastings District Council purchased the homestead and surrounding land and gardens in 2005 in recognition of its historical importance.

The 2.5 hectare garden is permanently open to the public, however the vehicle entrance is locked at night.

Stoneycroft Homestead now houses Knowledge Bank a non-profit organisation working to preserve the past for the future by digitising the pictures, film, biographies and oral histories of Hawke’s Bay. It is also home to the Lily Baker Library, which includes a collection of important records accumulated by Hawke’s Bay genealogists.

The homestead is registered as a Category II Historic Building by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.

Public toilets: No

The entrance to the reserve is off Omahu Rd, Hastings, near the intersection with SH50a.

Maintenance and development programmes for this reserve are governed by the District Wide Reserve Management Plan.
