What do I want to achieve as a youth councillor?
As a 2020 Youth Councillor, I would like to be a mouthpiece for teenagers – a vessel for the thoughts and ideas of young people like myself to be shared with those who can make a difference. I wish to be an active and contributing member of the Youth Council by investing in Projects and working towards a better and more engaged city. I will be holding not only myself, but the Hastings Council accountable for serving the best interests of the people and ensuring that the right considerations are made in the decision-making processes.
What do I love about Hastings?
I love the feeling, vibe and growth Hastings is experiencing. With the opening of the Toitoi Arts & Events centre, Hastings will become increasingly exposed to and be able to facilitate more music, dance and cultural events – this fills me with excitement the potential for Hastings to become a centre for North Island and NZ arts. Additionally, Hastings is filled with a wonderful bunch of people, and it is those people who are at the heart of what makes Hastings great. A Maori proverb sums this up: He aha te mea nui o tea o - what is the most important thing in the world? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. It is people, it is people, it is people
