Feedback wanted on Flaxmere facilities

flaxmere feedback boxes

What would you like Flaxmere’s community centre, library and pool complex to look like?

This is one of the questions being asked in the latest round of feedback gathering on the future of these Flaxmere facilities.

In response to previous suggestions from the community, the Hastings District Council is considering whether the facilities are fit-for-purpose for future growth, and catering effectively for the community’s needs.

More recently, since the community centre and library were upgraded in 2012, there had been calls for the likes of larger courts for playing basketball at the centre, and there was growing demand for the use of computers and technology at the library.

There had also been talk of developing the outside green space area between the Community Centre and the shopping centre into a more community and youth-friendly space, including a performance stage and possibly playground features.

To gain a greater understanding of what people would like for the area, feedback boxes and questionnaires have been placed around the suburb, available until December 21.

People will also be able to give their feedback to council staff who will be attending the family fun picnic at Flaxmere Park on December 8 from 12pm to 3pm.

After the feedback deadline, facility users and facility staff will have a meeting at the Flaxmere Community Centre to present their input, which along with the community feedback, will be included in a draft plan for the facilities.

The draft plan will then be presented to the public for formal consultation in the New Year.

Flaxmere councillor Jacoby Poulain said the council welcomed feedback on what the community wanted to see developed for the Community Centre in the future.

“With a report set to be presented to the council in the New Year it’s crucial to get your views in now.”

The boxes will be at: Flaxmere Library, Flaxmere Aquatics Centre, Flaxmere Community Centre, Flaxmere Work and Income, Totara Health, Flaxmere Age Concern, Kapai Waka, Flaxmere New World and Swansea Village.
