Camberley kids splashing about

A new neighbourhood splash pad has been opened just in time for Christmas.

A mini version of the large community splash pads in Flaxmere and Cornwall parks had its first public ‘turning on” in Kirkpatrick Park, Camberley, on Thursday (December 15).

The ribbon was cut by deputy mayor Sandra Hazlehurst, ably assisted by Camberley School pupil Yasmine Ngametua-Auua. Her mum Janelle and community organisation Te Ora Hou were the drivers behind the upgrade of the adjacent playground and the splash pad; turning the first sod for it with her son Samson in September.

Mrs Ngametua-Auua was very proud of the community driven project saying it fitted within the Camberley Community Plan. That plan was in its third iteration. So far it had led to a local community centre and bus shelters being built, murals beautifying the shopping centre, the introduction of family events and activities in the community, and clean ups.

The splash pad proved very popular with the children from Camberley School who attended the lunchtime opening.  They were not supposed to get wet as they had another half day of school but after the adults ran through the water jets in their work clothes there was just no stopping them.
