Gloves were donned and rubbish sacks filled by members of The Havelock North Village Lions Club, supported by Hastings District Council.
The crew, with an average age of 70, cleared rubbish along the Tukituki River, in the River Rd area.
Their initiative was part of the Lions International’s ‘Worldwide Week of Service to Protect our Planet’, celebrating 100 years of Lions Clubs across the world.

As well as litter the team found dumped concrete. The bulk of the rubbish found was in grass around the car park area.
The river clean up came on the back of street clean ups the 15-strong club had carried out.
