The growing crash rate at an intersection in Hastings has prompted Council to consider installing a roundabout.
There have been 25 crashes at the intersection of Eastbourne St and Nelson St over the past five years, with 21 of them involving turning vehicles.
Hastings District Council is commencing a three-and-a-half week public consultation process on the proposal, starting Monday (January 22).
With an average 10,000 vehicles passing through the intersection a day, there is likely to be high interest in the proposal, said Council’s works and services committee chairman Kevin Watkins.
“This is about safety, with the added benefit of smoother traffic flow.
“We do want public input into this proposal and all comment on the matter will be considered before a final decision is made,” he said.
Submissions close at noon on Wednesday, February 14. They should be marked ‘Roundabout consultation’ and can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org; lodged on line via www.myvoicemychoice.co.nz, posted to Private Bag 9002, Hastings 4156, or delivered to Hastings District Council,207 Lyndon Rd East, Hastings, 4122.
