Council's objective is to make smart buying decisions, seeking sustainability and value for money when purchasing assets or services. This is accomplished by encouraging and fostering fair competition and innovation, while ensuring potential risks are managed.
Hastings District Council spends about $110 million a year on infrastructure, facilities and services on behalf of the residents of Hastings.
This means that Council procurement not only has a budgetary impact, but also has a significant impact on our local communities and on the quality of life we enjoy.
The range of projects, goods and services is broad, from the bulk purchase of toilet rolls for all of the public toilets and the sourcing of computer systems, to the installation of water pipes and the construction of roads and bridges.
Through its procurement process, Council aims to achieve sustainable value-for-money results for ratepayers and residents and build relationships with suppliers that encourage fair competition, innovation and certainty of supply for both parties. By achieving those aims, the process can be a force for good to advance the long-term well-being of our district.
Council welcomes tenders for products and services.
Council can purchase goods and services using a number of models including open tender, pre-qualification tender, and direct engagement.
To find out what goods and services are currently out for tender, check the Government Electronic Tenders Service website GETS.
Council has standard purchase terms and conditions which may be modified depending on the item or service being purchased.
Council has a strong focus on health and safety. Contractors carrying out physical work under a contract with Council must be SiteWise (link to SiteWise site) qualified. The types of work requiring this qualification include (but are not limited to) infrastructure construction, cleaning and security.
