Procurement - health and safety

We all need to keep safe at work and Council takes its responsibility in this area seriously.

Many of our workplaces are complex and in the public sphere, so we need to ensure that everyone is protected: Our staff, contractors and the public.

To ensure we all do keep safe, and to help meet our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, Council uses the independent SiteWise pre-qualification system.

Contractors who must be registered with SiteWise include (but are not limited to) those who will be attending, monitoring or working on construction projects, or involved in providing security and cleaning services. Project tenders for these types of work from companies without SiteWise accreditation will not be considered, or will be required to become SiteWise registered.

How do I register?

Go on-line to SiteWise and register. There is a cost, depending on the type and size of your business. You will then be directed to complete a questionnaire on your health and safety plans. SiteWise assesses your answers and awards a grade, providing you with a detailed report, including any suggested improvements to your practices.

What are the benefits?

Council cannot accept tenders for the types of work already noted unless the contractor is SiteWise accredited to level green.

There are other benefits: The process quickly and easily assesses your practices and suggest any possible improvements. As well as demonstrating your commitment to best health and safety practices, being accredited is also cost-effective given you are unlikely to have to provide further evidence of your company’s health and safety culture. All of the councils in Hawke’s Bay (Warioa, Napier, Hawke’s Bay Regional and Central Hawke’s Bay) use the SiteWise system, so you will be able to be considered for projects across the region.
