Eastbourne Street upgrade - temporary intersection closure

Eastbourne

Eastbourne Street’s new paved footpaths are now in place, and it is time to move onto the final phase of this Hastings Alive! revitalisation project.

Over the next month, there will be some disruption on the 100 and 200 Eastbourne Street East blocks to allow the contractors to replace the Russell Street traffic lights, rebuild the road and reseal the surface.

Stage 1

Road closed – July 31 to August 15

Replacement of the Russell Street/Eastbourne Street traffic lights

From July 31 to August 15, the traffic lights will be decommissioned while being replaced.

To ensure traffic safety is maintained, the 100 Russell Street South block will be closed off at Eastbourne Street and will operate as a cul –de –sac.

Eastbourne Street will remain open to two-way traffic and on-road car parking.

The intersection will be reopened as soon as the traffic lights are operational.

Hastings Alive PinkGradStage 2

Road resealing – August 20 to September 6

Replacement of old road surface with new asphaltic concrete

This work requires stripping off the old road seal, rebuilding the road base and laying the new asphalt across the two Eastbourne Street East blocks.

Traffic may be reduced to one lane while this work is taking place.

This improvement project is part of the Hastings Alive! programme of works to create a distinctive, attractive and inviting city centre.

Hastings District Council appreciates your continued patience during this major street upgrade that is now very near completion.
