When there is no other option there is the landfill. Council’s kerbside rubbish collection sends everything in the wheelie bins to landfill. The challenge? Keep as much out of your wheelie bin as possible.
Council provides a kerbside rubbish collection, with everything in the wheelie bin going to the landfill. The service is paid for through rates (a charge to every home that is on a rubbish collection route).
Residents not on the collection route for wheelie bins, or with excess rubbish, can purchase orange rubbish bags for disposal our Transfer Stations (no charge).
There are things you are not allowed to put in the wheelie bins:
We do ask that before you put something in the general rubbish collection that you ask yourself: ‘Can this be re-used, upcycled or recycled to keep it out of the landfill?’.
To help you find another way see:
The kerbside collection is carried out on the same day every week. Check which day yours is picked up by entering your address on the Collection Days page (If you have a contract with a private rubbish collector you need to check the day it goes out and whether it will be picked up on public holidays with that company.)
Wheelie bins need to be placed as close to the kerb as possible and must not be blocking the footpath. Please have your bin out by 7am on your collection day.
If there are usually cars parked on the side of the road we appreciate your best efforts to put your bin somewhere the truck can access it. We know this isn’t always possible though and our drivers will move bins within reach of the truck’s mechanical arm where necessary.
If you live on a private road your bins must be placed on the kerbside of the nearest public road.
If you have limited kerb space please contact us for advice on where to place your bin.
