The Opal ‘flowers’

The Opal flowers

In the lead-up to the blossom festival a striking new public artwork has been installed in Albert Square until October 4.

Inspired by the Pohutakwa frond, the abstract work consists of 25 filaments sweeping out from a steel base. Ranging in height from four to five metres the rolled aluminum sections are powder coated a light grey.

The Opal ‘flowers’ are intriguing during the day and even more stunning lit up at night. Make sure you check them out when you are out and about in the city.
