The building of a new footpath and lime rock wall along the Napier Rd frontage of the Village Green starts this week.
The desire for a strong link between the green space and the village shopping area was expressed during the public consultation on the Village Green redevelopment. It was incorporated into the plan, with construction to be carried out in the 2018/19 financial year.
The project, which includes a new two-metre wide footpath, kerb and channelling and lime rock wall, is expected to take about eight weeks, weather dependent.
It will mean that some of the angle parking will not be available along that stretch during the construction, however the contractors would endeavour to keep the disruption to a minimum.
Hastings District councillor Malcolm Dixon said the redevelopment of the Village Green had proved an enormous success and continuing to strengthen the links between it and the village was important.
“Since the re-opening of the Village Green in April last year, the community has really taken this space to its heart. It is a real pleasure to see the sheer numbers of people using and enjoying it.”
