Twenty-six submissions on the Hastings District Council’s publicly notified application to remediate the remainder of the Craggy Range track have been received, and a hearing date set for June 11.
To secure a way forward for the future of the eastern face of Te Mata o te Tīpuna, the Hastings District Council sought resource consent in December last year to remediate the remaining section of the Craggy Range track.
This followed urgent work conducted the month prior under the Resource Management Act (relating to emergency works) to remove a 500m section at the top of the track after an independent report identified it was a risk to public safety.
An independent consultant was engaged to prepare a resource consent that was lodged in January this year, and publicly notified.
Starting June 11, and continuing to June 12 if necessary, submissions will be heard by two independent commissioners, with the aim to undertake the remediation of the remainder of the track as soon as possible.
Hastings Mayor Sandra Hazlehurst says of the submissions received, 90 per cent supported remediating the track.
“I am pleased with the community response on options to remediate the Craggy Range track. I’m looking forward to this process when everyone will get a chance to have a say so we can move forward together.”
