Some small fee increases will be introduced at Aquatics Hastings’ four pools starting in November, the first time fees have been increased since 2014.
Patronage at the Flaxmere, Frimley, Clive and Havelock Village pools has grown since that time and there has been a need to increase staffing levels as a result to ensure the pools can be operated safely.
A big part of that growth in the last two to three years has been in the Learn to Swim programme, with numbers attending up 60 per cent since 2016.
In addition, a recent review of pay levels for life guards and Learn to Swim Instructors has highlighted pay scales need to increase to meet industry benchmarks, with the likelihood of a move towards paying a living wage in the next 12 months.
A fees and charges review of the Hastings facilities compared to others in the lower North Island has shown that the current rates for Aquatics Hastings are lower than most other providers.
In order to meet the operating costs for the 2019/20 season the casual and concession fee increases in the table below will come into effect from November 1, with the Learn to Swim classes and Learn to Swim School fees increasing from Term 1 2020.
