Ron Georgi III Park in Flaxmere is now home to a new basketball court thanks to the Hoops in Parks scheme that’s being trialled by Hastings District Council, Basketball New Zealand, Basketball Hawke’s Bay, and Sport Hawke’s Bay.

The court was officially opened last month with hundreds coming along to try out the hoops and meet the special guests Tall Black Tom Abercrombie, Tall Fern squad member Tayla Dalton, and Hawks/Tall Blacks players Derone Raukawa and Ethan Rusbatch who ran drills and competitions, dishing out basketballs and singlets as prizes.

Council is planning a second Hoops in Parks court in Flaxmere, on Flaxmere Park.
