Corner of Ōtene and Ruahāpia Roads to be closed today

Otene Rd

A section of road at the corner of Ōtene and Ruahāpia Roads is being blocked as of this afternoon in a bid to deter excessive noise and safety issues in the area.

In December last year, Hastings District Council made the decision to close the intersection after reports from residents and the police of illegal activities, such as burnouts, street racing and rubbish dumping.

While council officers had been working with road police to increase the number of patrols and install CCTV cameras, the need for further measures was identified by council and the community.

The closed area is an approximately 600m section of road from the northern end of Ōtene Rd, and around the corner onto Ruahāpia Rd.

Two sets of gates have been installed on the road itself, and timber bollards have been placed on the sides of the road to block access.

The closure will not affect residents’ access to their properties.
