Another new park for Havelock North

Hastings District Council is unveiling three new places to play in Havelock North in April.

First out of the blocks is Romanes Park, which will be officially opened at 10am on 12 April by Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule.

This three hectare reserve is now home to the Hawke’s Bay BMX Club’s community-funded national competition-standard track and sports a new field for the Havelock North Wanderers Football Club. The park has been named after former Havelock North Mayor Harry Romanes, whose family have funded a playground and adult fitness circuit for the park.

Lawrence Yule says “Romanes Park will be a focal point for many of Havelock North’s young people and I have no doubt that it will be very well used.  It also provides plenty of space for play and exercise for other people from the community.”

The Council is also re-developing Havelock North Domain. After consulting with the community, the draft plan is now ready for feedback.

“The Domain has always been a fun place for families and children and we have tried to build on this. The draft proposal includes many of the items from the local wishlist –a new urban skate plaza, a splash pad, enhanced children’s playground, toilet block, shade and picnic areas. The community are invited to provide their feedback on the proposals by end of June.

Finally, on 26 April the Council will open a children’s playground on Meissner Reserve within the Arataki subdivision. “It has been designed to meet the needs of the many young families now living in this area and we have included some quiet spaces and benches for those who do not want to run around and burn off some energy.”
