Have your say on Expressway improvements

Recent Government proposals to provide funding for roading improvements to improve the safety and efficiency of the HB Expressway and access to the Port of Napier, will require a variation, or change, to the Regional Land Transport Plan.

The Regional Transport Committee (RTC) is inviting the public to comment on the proposals, particularly in relation to roading efficiency and safety.

The proposals were announced in July by the Minister of Transport and Minister for Economic Development as part of Matariki: The Hawke’s Bay Regional Economic Development Strategy.

The $10-12 million package of work is proposed for the Expressway between Pakipaki and the intersection with Watchman Road/State Highway 2 near the Hawke’s Bay Airport.

Final plans are still being prepared by the NZ Transport Agency at this stage, and the input of local authorities and the public through consultation will assist this process.

The proposed work would consist of targeted seal widening, roadside and median barriers and slip lanes/extensions to merge lanes at the Evenden Rd, Omahu Rd and Prebensen Drive roundabouts.

For more information and details on the proposal and making submissions see: www.hbrc.govt.nz and search #submissions, or contact the Hawke'sw Bay Regional Council for a printed submission form.  Submissions can be made up until 5 pm on October 28, 2016.

The objectives of the Regional Land Transport Plan are for a safe, resilient and efficient transport system that supports the development of our economy and contributes to social well-being in our community; and a reduction in the risk of death or serious injury on Hawke’s Bay roads.

The RTC involves representatives of all the region’s councils, transport authorities such as the NZ Transport Agency and NZ Police, and is administered by the regional council. - Hawke's Bay Regional Council
