FAWC is here: Get into it

There are 82 “out of the box, delicious” events in this year’s F.A.W.C! Food and Wine Classic.

The 10-day food extravaganza is just around the corner, and this year is bigger and better than ever, says Hawke’s Bay Tourism general manager Annie Dundas.

“Summer F.A.W.C! ticket sales have gone gangbusters with a record 1300 tickets snapped up within five hours of tickets being available, doubling opening day sales last year,” said Ms Dundas.

“About 40 per cent of F.A.W.C! goers come from out of town. With a good number coming from Auckland and Wellington and this year we have seen a real spike in International ticket buyers - so keep your eyes peeled for plenty of Americans in Hawke’s Bay this November.”

This year is F.A.W.C!’s fifth birthday. “As only fitting, a lavish party with outstanding wines and delectable bites, under the twinkling lights at Black Barn Vineyards Market Round will mark the occasion.”

Famed New Zealand foodie Ray McVinnie is back and leading the F.A.W.C! chefs who include Al Brown, Josh Emett, Michael Van De Elzen, Nadia Lim and Nici Wickes. Hawke’s Bay’s chefs and winemakers will share the spotlight, serving up fresh local produce and wines.

“Whether you’re a high roller looking for a glitzy night out, keen for a laid back wine and food experience with a group of friends, or new to F.A.W.C! and just want a taster of this sumptuous 10-day festival you’re sure to find and event that will tickle your taste buds in this summer’s F.A.W.C! programme,” said Ms Dundas.

The range of events runs the full gamut. Trinity Hill’s “White Night” secret location late lunch is one of most creative and unique with diners having to dress in white and bring along a picnic to share with all the other diners. “The aim is to outdo your neighbour so you can collectively feast like Kings.”

For those on a budget it will be hard to beat the F.A.W.C! Electrolux Masterclass Series. “For just $10 a class, foodies can get along to Century Theatre at MTG and see Nadia Lim, Ray McVinnie, Nici Wickes and Monique Fiso and James Beck all strut their stuff and share their greatest cooking tips and tricks.”

“Commitment-phobes will love the great range of ‘walk up’ events this year; The VCP Oyster Bar at Advintage in Havelock on November 5 (that’s this Saturday!) will be a great party as will the Session Ales and Sliders on Sunday 6.”
