Fighting fit at FlaXrock

About  150 people turned up to check out the Flaxmere Community Centre open day on Saturday – with the gym proving a huge draw card.

The free have-a-go “Family Bootcamps” drew the most participants with mums, dads, grandparents and kids teaming up for “huge noisy fun”, said acting Flaxmere Community Centre manager Jacqui Davis.

Also on the hit list were the Wahine Explode keep fit classes and the climbing wall, also free on the day. “The climbing wall had a huge uptake.”

The open day was aimed at getting people to try gym classes for free, and have a look at the rest of the facility.

“For some people they don’t know how big our facility is or what we can do until they come inside.”

It also kicked off a no-joining fee month. In May new members can join the gym without paying the $30 fee, then for $10 a week they can participate in on any of the FlaXrock classes.
