City bus shelters going up

The steel framework and the seats for the new state-of-the-art central city bus shelter outside the Hastings Library in Eastbourne St have been installed, and the glass panels for the roof and sides are due to arrive in January.

The likely start date for the buses using the new bus stop is January 30. That will be confirmed early in the new year once all the work is completed.

The toughened glass panels that have etched artistic designs are due to be delivered on January 16. The patterns on the glass, which ensure they are seen, reflect the public art works in Hastings central city.

The demolition of the old shelters outside Heretaunga Women’s Rest will start in February once the new shelter is in use. Signs will go up in the old shelters once the changeover starts so people know to use the new shelters.
