Snow closed roads

Tuesday update: The roads are open however the Taihape Road from the forestry camp to Kuripoponga Bridge has black ice in several places. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and to be aware of the raod surface conditions. The Napier Taupo Road also has very icy stretches in places and the same warnings apply.

Monday update: Everything is open but some roads remain icy so drivers are warned to drive to the conditions.

Saturday update: Te Mata Peak Road is open to vehicles this morning. Taihape Road is open this morning but closures are still in place on Waitara and Pohokura Roads (off the Napier Taupo Road) to all but residents vehicles.

Noon roads update: The Napier to Taihape Road remains closed with snow reported on the Rangatiki side. Locally, Napier to Kuripapaonga Bridge section remains open, however extreme caution is recommended. Grit has been spread on the road surface from Glenross / River Road to the Kuripapaonga Bridge. Speed restrictions are in place and drivers are recommended to drive to the conditions

Update: Council has been advised that the Napier Taupo Road is now open (10.56am).

Snow is affecting roads across Hawke’s Bay, principally the Napier Taupo Road and the Napier Taihape Road.

This morning (July 10) the road to the summit of Te Mata Peak was also closed because of black ice conditions - with staff planning to reassess the situation mid-afternoon.

As at this morning (9.43) the Napier Taupo Rd is closed;

The road from the Kuripapaonga Bridge to Taihape Road remains closed.

The Taihape Road from Napier to Kuripapaonga Bridge is open but there is black ice on the road heading towards Kuripapaonga Bridge. Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution and to the road conditions at all times.;

Updates will be posted 12 noon, 4pm for overnight status and 8am tomorrow morning.
