Whakatu Arterial Link Update - 8 December 2017

Work on the Whakatu Arterial Link continues to go well; helped by the good weather. Site work will cease for the holiday break on December 21, with the teams back on January 8.

The SH2 roundabout is finished, with the new Pilcher Rd leg just requiring top soil on the adjacent gardens, and guard rails. The speed limit will be back to normal before Christmas.

The new bridge over the Karamu Stream has also been completed.

Also on track is the new ‘peanut’ roundabout at Whakatu. The kerbing and laying of base course are being carried out this week and it will be partially asphalted before the Christmas break. In the first week of work in January, traffic will be diverted from Whakatu Rd onto the new roundabout.

Drivers using Ruahapia Rd, between Pakowhai Rd and the Whakatu Rd turn-off, will have noticed that the speed limit has been reduced to 30kmh. That is to mitigate any risks associated with the number of WAL-related trucks using the road.
