With the SH2 roundabout and the new bridge over the Karamu Stream completed, the focus of the teams working on the new Whakatu Arterial Link is now on the ‘peanut’ roundabout in the heart of the Whakatu industrial area.
A new section of road leading into the roundabout has been completed and is in use and earthworks around the site are on-going.
There is still some planting to do to the sides of the SH2/Mangateretere roundabout, however that will not be carried out until the Autumn planting season.
With the harvesting season for fruit such as cherries and peaches over, earthworks on the road between SH2 and the industrial area are also back into full swing.
It is expected that work on the third and final roundabout, at Pakowhai, will get underway in April/May, with the expected completion date for the whole project still expected to be by late 2018/early 2019.
