Lyndhurst Road rebuilding starting

Lyndhurst1 SmallThe Lyndhurst Rd entry to the Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park will be back to normal by the middle of next month, with the completion of that section of the project to install new infrastructure.

Road crews have started work on the layers that form the base of the road, and the kerbs and driveways will start being laid tomorrow (May 18). Sealing of the road is due to start in early June.

The project involves installing new storm water, drinking water and waste water infrastructure to supply the Lyndhurst subdivision at the end of the road, and building a new road and shared cycleway and walkway.

Hastings District Council works and services committee chairman Kevin Watkins said the contractors had advised that a section of historically-laid pipe needed to be lowered, after which the final construction of the road and its surface could get underway.

Wet weather over the last couple of weeks had not helped progress. Muddy conditions meant that for safety the road needed to remain closed until further into the rebuilding phase.

In the meantime the entrance to the sports park remains via Evenden Rd.

Mr Watkins said it had been hoped that the Nottingley Rd to sports park section would be finished by the end of this month, however the lowering the pipe would add about two weeks to the project.

“We know that road works are inconvenient and we thank people for their patience. Council is working closely with the contractors to get the project finished as soon as possible.”
