Waste planning: Have your say
19 March 2018
Have you had your say on how you think waste should be managed in Hawke’s Bay over the next six years?
Submissions to the draft joint Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) for 2018-2024 close this Friday, 23 March. The draft plan has been put together by Hastings and Napier councils, as co-authors of the existing waste plan and co-owners of Omarunui Landfill.
More than 5000 submissions have been received so far.To have your say, go to www.myvoicemychoice.co.nz which is also where you will find the full document.
Printed copies can be viewed at the Hastings, Flaxmere, Havelock North, Napier and Taradale libraries, at the Hastings District Council offices in Lyndon Rd East, Hastings, and at the Napier City Council Customer Service Centre, 215 Hastings Street, Napier. Those facilities also have paper versions of the submission form.
Submissions will be heard next month, and both councils are due to adopt the final joint WMMP 2018-24 in May.
Options in the consultation document for recycling, repurposing or composting more rubbish include, for urban households, enhancing existing council kerbside recycling services by providing urban households with collection crates; introducing or enhancing existing council-provided organic waste collection; and replacing council-provided collection of rubbish bags with wheelie bins.
Rural residents are being asked about future levels of rubbish and recycling services, and whether there are more communities where recycling services can be set up, following on from recycling containers being installed in Tutira, Maraekakaho, Poukawa, Pukehamoamoa and Waimarama
