Council has a range of alcohol licensing related functions under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 (the Act). The fees for these functions are currently set by The Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Fees) Regulations 2013 (the Regulations).
The regulations provide the default fees payable by licensees. The regulations also stipulate the fees for special licenses and other fees such as temporary authority applications and temporary licence applications. The intent of the fee regulations is to provide a means of full cost recovery for councils to complete these functions.
All councils can vary the fee amounts provided in the regulations, to ensure full cost recovery over time, through a bylaw process (the exception to this is the fee for manager’s certificates, which cannot be varied). At a Council meeting on 8 August 2024 Council approved a Alcohol Licensing Fee Bylaw increasing the fees. All license fees are automatically calculated upon online application and will be at the increased rate from 1 July 2025 as per the bylaw.
