Rates payment options
If you own a house in the Hastings District, your total rate bill is split into four payments throughout the year.
The due date for payments this financial year (June to July) are:
- 18 August 2017
- 17 November 2017
- 16 February 2018
- 18 May 2018
There are a number of ways you can pay your Hastings District Council rates. We want to make it easy for you. Here are your options:
Have your property number handy and pay your rates online.
EASYPAY Direct Debit
- Save time and avoid late fees by setting up an EASYPAY direct debit to pay your rates, debtor accounts and water meter accounts (but not dog fees).
- EASYPAY allows a payment to be automatically deducted from your bank account.
- Contact us at any time to cancel or suspend the authority when you are paying current rates.
- Please contact us if you want your EASYPAY to be changed when paying arrears.
A direct debit can be set up by completing the online application form or by completing the form from the related documents below.
Pay your rates by cash, cheque or eftpos at the following outlets:
- Hastings District Council main civic administration building, 207 Lyndon Road East, Hastings
- All Postshops throughout New Zealand
Telephone or Internet Banking
You can arrange with your bank to pay your rates by telephone or internet banking. When you contact your bank to set up the payments you will need to give them your property number which is on your rates bill.
As the Council has several different functions, payments made must be specific to the account to which they are to be credited.
Details supplied for telephone or Internet banking to the Council must therefore be set out as:
|Bank||Westpac Trust, Hastings|
|Account||03 0642 0281000 00|
|Reference||Name on rates|
|Code||Property reference number:e.g. "property No 12345".|
Where one transfer is made for several accounts - for example three rate accounts, a water account and a building application - we can process these if a schedule is emailed on the day the payment is made marked "Attention Bank Management Officer".
Additional charges for late payments
A penalty of 10% will be added to any portion of rates or any portion of water supplied by meter assessed in the current year which remains unpaid by the relevant installment due date.
Any portion of rates or any portion of water supplied by meter assessed in previous years (including previously applied penalties) which remain unpaid on the 20 July 2017, will have a further 10% added, firstly on 27 July 2017, and if still unpaid, again on 29 January 2018.
|Current installments||Installments unpaid after the due date will incur a penalty charge of 10%|
|Additional on previous years (first)||10% on any rates or any water meter charges not paid on or before 26 July 2017|
Additional on previous years (second)
10% on any rates or any water meter charges not paid on or before 29 January 2018
If you think you are going to have trouble paying your rates on time, please do not hesitate to phone the Council to discuss.
