Collection Days
Find out what day rubbish and recycling is collected from your kerbside, Hastings District Council and Hawke's Bay Regional Council rates, the legal description of your property and what services are on your property by typing your address.
About Database
The Rubbish & Recycling Database allows you to search for any property in Hastings to find out what days the rubbish and recycling are collected.
Simply enter your address and click on the right property that you want to find out the collection days for.
Please note that some commercial properties do not have a recycling collection. Our database is updated regularly but there may be times when you can't find your property. If this happens please get in contact with the council and they will inform you of your collection days.
Orange Rubbish Bags
Hastings District Council rubbish collectors only accept kerbside refuse in orange council rubbish bags. Private wheelie bin operators are separate from council services. Official 40 and 60 litre orange bags can be purchased at any one of the registered sellers on the FAQ page. This is a user-pays system where you pay only for what you throw away. The cost of the bag covers the cost of disposal at landfill. The targeted rate covers cost of the collection truck to go around streets to collect. There is free Orange bag disposal at the Henderson Road and Blackbridge Transfer Stations.
Bags should be placed on the kerbside by 7:30am on your collection day.
The maximum acceptable weight for any bag is 10kg, however there is no limit to the number of official bags you can put out for collection each week.
Bags will not be accepted if they contain:
- Hot ash
- Hazardous materials
- Sharp objects
- Garden waste
It is illegal to place your rubbish outside another property.
Waimarama collections
During the summer months (December - February) there will be additional collections for rubbish in the Waimarama area. For the full timetable of the collections see the related documents at the bottom of this page.
