The Again Again Coffee Scheme allows customers to pay a small deposit to borrow a cup, when this gets returned it’s refunded! Easy.
Every year it’s estimated that we in New Zealand throw out around 295 MILLION single use cups! Bringing your own re-usable coffee cup to a café is one way to combat this, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be working… It sounds simple but in practise there can be a number of barriers: people forget their cup, or don’t plan to have a coffee then want one whilst they’re out and have to opt for the single-use cup. But now there is another way and its called Again Again.
So how does it work? You pay a small deposit to borrow the cup and then this gets refunded when it’s brought back! Easy. This means the next time you’re walking past you can drop the cup back in for a refund, or you can swap it over for a new one to take away with your coffee. But if you forget it, you can borrow more than one and return all of them back at the same time!
The Waste Minimisation Team are eager to see cafés in the Hastings District reduce waste from single use coffee cups and want to support cafes with a subsidy to trial Again Again.
Council will help cover approximately half of the cost of the first six months of joining a scheme.
What does that look like? Well, when signing up for the 6 month trial Hastings District Council will cover the costs of the StartNow Package and the Initial Fleet cost. The exact value of this will depend on the size of the coffee shop and the most suitable package determined by the café and Again Again.
All we ask of cafes is that they are happy to complete a short questionnaire at the 3 month and 6 month mark. This will be to help assess how the scheme is going and how many cups we are managing to divert!
To sign up you will need a quote from Again Again, you can contact them at email@example.com
