All 590 low-level slips (Tiers 0 and 1) identified as caused by the event, have been remediated.
Consultants are currently completing designs for the 211 larger slips (Tiers 2 and 3) located on the following high priority roads: Taihape Road, Glengarry Road, Dartmoor Road, Kahuranaki Road, Kereru Road, Waimārama Road and Puketitiri Road. When the designs are completed, contractors will be engaged to begin physical works at these sites.
The below tables will continue to be updated as information comes to hand.

Description: This site had an underslip extending into the carriageway. The proposed solution includes an anchored retaining wall to prevent further erosion and support the reconstructed road.
Impacts on road users: During construction one lane will be closed with traffic management set up for the other lane. Possible delays to be expected.
Estimated completion: August 2024
Description: It was observed that the downslope from the carriageway had experienced a failure during the Cyclone Gabrielle event, extending into the carriageway with partial loss of one lane. Additionally, localised tension cracks were identified along the slope crest which show evidence of dislocation of an existing culvert. A solution has been designed incorporating timber supports to stabilise and reinforce the site, allowing the road to be rebuilt.
Impacts on road users: During construction one lane will be closed with traffic management set up for the other lane. Minor delays are possible during the construction.
Estimated completion: July 2024
Description: The failure at this site was a large underslip. We have completed the design of a timber retaining wall and this will be tendered in the new year with construction anticipated to start in autumn.
Impact on road users: During construction one lane will be closed with traffic management set up for the other lane. Minor delays are possible during construction.
Estimated completion date: August 2024

Estimated completion date: August 2024
Description: It was observed that this site had a large under slip and undermining of the small timber wall. The design for this site has been completed and includes reinforcing the edge of the road with a timber retaining wall.
Impacts on road users: During construction one lane will be closed with traffic management set up for the other lane. Minor delays are possible during construction.
Estimated completion: September 2024
Description: This has an underslip meaning the side of the road has fallen away. We are finalizing the design of the permanent repair which will reinforce the slope to prevent further erosion and allow the road to be reconstructed.
Impacts on road users: During construction one lane will be closed with traffic management set up for the other lane. Minor delays are possible during construction.
Estimated completion date: September 2024
Description: This site experienced at underslip of residual soil on the side of the gully. There is resulting saturation from the swale drain overflow. The detail design for this site is complete, and due for construction next year. The barrier footings will be stabilised and the stormwater will be directed along the outside corner away from the failure to avoid further damage in the future.
Impact on road users: During construction one lane will be closed with traffic management set up for the other lane. Minor delays are possible during the construction.
Estimated completion: August 2024.
Description: These two close locations experienced slips extending to the edge of the seal. The proposed design solution includes realigning the road slightly away from the slip through both of these adjacent slips.
Impacts on road users: During construction one lane will be closed with traffic management set up for the other lane. Minor delays are possible during construction.
Estimated completion date: October 2024
Description: Following the cyclone, the culvert at this site decoupled with fill embankment being washed away. The proposed design solution includes an anchored/cantilever UC/timber pole retaining wall with an integrated stormwater outlet, with the end of wall to bank tie-In is to be a gentle cut slope.
Impacts on road users: During construction one lane will be closed with traffic management set up for the other lane. Minor delays are possible during construction.
