Dispose of your household hazardous waste FOR FREE at the HazMobile annual collection day. The next HazMobile is happening on 3 March 2024.
Each year Hastings and Napier councils provide a free hazardous waste service for householders.
The HazMobile event scheduled for Sunday 26 November 2023 was postponed due to weather. The next HazMobile collection day is happening on Sunday 3 March 2024.
Those who have confirmed keeping their booking from the postponed event, will receive email confirmation of this with a new ticket that includes the same detail for the Sunday 3 March event.

The HazMobile accepts most hazardous materials you might find at home. These include:

Original packaging is preferred as it helps us recognise what you're bringing us. But generally:
A lot of what we collect can be recycled or even re-used.
For instance, most of the waste oil and petrol is re-used as fuel eg. to fire a large New Zealand cement kiln.
Wet cell batteries (lead-acid) are recycled in New Zealand, while rechargeable nickel-cadmium and mercury-containing batteries are recycled overseas.
ChemCollect which is run through Hawkes Bay Company 3R, and the Agrecovery programme both offer agricultural chemical collection services.
