Hayseed Trust

Hayseed Trust

Hayseed is the only provider in Napier working with 13-16 year old at-risk youth.

Our alternative way of educating, smaller class sizes and holistic approach creates great outcomes, not only for our youth, but for their whanau and the wider Youth. Our tutors are great role models, they are enthusiastic, encouraging, hard-working and believe in our youth.

We are currently working with 13 – 16 year old youths who have been excluded from mainstream education due to high truancy, drug & alcohol abuse, behavioural problems and/or learning barriers.

Programmes offered

We view education in the wider sense; there is the numeracy, literacy and an educational component (Students can gain credits towards their NCEA Level 1)  however we also include skills that our young people need for their day to day living, these include:

  • provide full transportation to and from course,
  • provide breakfast & lunch
  • Re-engage our young people back into education or further training
  • Provide opportunities for our young people to be part of their communities
  • Help grow their soft skills (manners, respect, self-esteem etc)
  • Support the growth of employability skills
  • How to cook basic kai
  • Positive communication, manners and respect
  • Cultural identity Goal setting
  • Physical exercise & Youth activities
  • Work ex & volunteering

Alongside this we also work with external agencies to ensure that our students and their whanau are receiving the health care and wrap-around support they need (counselling, dentists, optometrists, mental health etc).

We provide transport to appointments if required.
