Toilet humour takes over Hastings Library’s storytime

Hastings District Libraries learning and discovery librarian Kristen Clothier looks forward to welcoming visitors back for another Poos and Farts Storytime.

Poos and farts always get a giggle, in fact they are so popular with younger audiences that Hastings Library is bringing back a special potty-mouthed storytime to delight local toilet humour fans.

On Sunday, August 13 at 2pm, Hastings Library is hosting “The Return of the Poos and Farts Storytime”.

Previously held last year, the bodily function Storytime was so popular that programming library staff decided to bring it back for a re-run.

Hastings councillor Wendy Schollum said the event was designed to engage children in literacy in a fun way, as well as normalise discussions about bodily functions.

“Our libraries have a number of great children’s books designed to tell the story of this function in a way that kids can relate to.

“This will be an all-ages celebration of hilarious bodily functions, but seriously we need to encourage these discussions, and our tamariki to look after these areas as they grow and age.”

Social media posts about the event reached Te Awhi Rito New Zealand Reading Ambassador Alan Dingley, who liked the idea so much he asked if he could come along to read.

“Library staff are in contact with Mr Dingley at the moment and hope to have him attend the event.”

Hastings District Libraries also have books for parents and adults on bowel health, urinary tract care and general wellbeing.

If you are in town on August 13, pop into the Hastings Library for poos and farts storytime fun!
