Halloween high jinks at Hastings council facilities

A family friendly Halloween alternative is on offer this October at Hastings District Libraries and Flaxmere Community Centre over the next couple of weeks.

There will be Halloween-themed activities at Hastings, Flaxmere and Havelock North libraries running from Tuesday, October 24, with a ‘Halloween Hullabaloo’ on October 31 from 4.30 to 7pm at the Hastings Library.

Designed as an alternative way to celebrate Halloween, families can bring children along to have plenty of fun activities in a safe space.

Councillor Wendy Schollum says with this celebration growing in popularity it is important to ensure our children can celebrate in a safe way.

“This is a great alternative to having our young guys and ghouls knocking on strangers’ doors asking for lollies and treats, while still enabling lots of spooktacular fun."

There will be Spooky Storytime’s, spooky boardgames, Frankenstein hunts and many more ‘not too scary’ activities for children and families.

Children are encouraged to dress up and there will be spot prizes for best costumes at the Halloween Hullabaloo event.

The Flaxmere Community Centre is also running a Halloween-themed disco on Friday, October 27, 4.30pm - 6.30pm. This is another dress-up occasion with spot prizes up for grabs.

All events are free.
