Historic Hastings homes make for captivating wedding venues

Keirunga Homestead

Keirunga Homestead, Keirunga Gardens

As a wedding destination, Hastings has many options for couples wanting to tie the knot, including two of the district’s iconic heritage homes in Havelock North that are available for hire.

A recent addition to the district’s venue offerings is the Keirunga Homestead, managed by the Keirunga Gardens Arts and Crafts Society Inc., that with support from Hastings District Council has been upgraded ahead of opening it for community use.

At its location on Puflett Road, it provides meticulously designed facilities tailored for a diverse range of events.

Nestled amidst picturesque cottage gardens, this venue provides an attractive backdrop that enhances the ambiance for a variety of occasions.

The homestead is a historic family home rich in history, which is ideal for small weddings, family gatherings, meetings, family dinners and more.

The beautiful, covered verandah looks out onto the Homestead Garden, and hireage includes full use of the entire building - including the kitchen.

The gardens may be used, there is space on the front lawn for a marquee, and also a large courtyard available for hire.

“The homestead is the focal point for the venue, it’s a testament to architectural excellence with its sprawling design and captivating panoramic garden views overlooking the stunning landscapes of Hawke’s Bay. This space is an embodiment of thoughtful design and meticulous planning,” says society board chair Chris Moore.

This space has capacity for up to 110 people, parking for about 60 cars, and full disability/wheelchair access and amenities.

Historic Duart House, owned by Hastings District Council, and managed by the Duart House Society, is a long-standing boutique wedding venue, located within three acres of gardens on Duart Rd, says custodian Juliette Hamilton.

“The homestead was built in 1882 and is surrounded by three acres of gardens. It is an elegant and stylish location to celebrate and create beautiful memories.”

Inside the house a magnificent rimu staircase ascends to the first floor, waiting for the bride to make her entrance. The circular driveway and imposing facade of the house make a wonderful backdrop for photographs of wedding vehicles or a large group shot.

Offering graceful dining room seating for 60 to 70 guests for a formal sit-down dinner/buffet, or accommodating up to 100 guests for a more casual cocktail-style occasion, people can also hire all the fittings – including chairs, tables, cutlery, crockery, glassware, tablecloths, microphone and speakers.

People can either conduct their ceremony and reception indoors, or in the vast garden setting which makes for a truly charming backdrop for the special day any time of the year, but spring and summer are particularly stunning with its colourful roses, other flowers and impressive trees.

There is on-site car parking for 20+ cars.
