Civic Honours Awards nominations open

Nominations are now open for Hastings District Council’s 2024 Civic Honours Awards.

These annual awards are held to recognise individuals, groups or organisations that have contributed significantly to Hastings district.

The award categories are arts and culture, health and welfare, sport and recreation, and education and youth. They can include people who showed exemplary leadership during and after Cyclone Gabrielle.

Hastings mayor Sandra Hazlehurst said the awards, which have been running for more than 30 years, were a wonderful way for people to acknowledge and celebrate others who had made a difference in their community.

“These awards are the most prestigious awarded by council and the ceremony is one of the highlights of our year. It’s wonderful to be able to recognise those who have contributed generously to our community.”

Last year’s Civic Honours recipients ranged from long-standing volunteer arts boards members to volunteer firefighters, Age Concern volunteers and health advocates.

Civic development subcommittee chair Malcolm Dixon invites nominations, which are open until 5pm, May 10, 2024.

People can call Council’s Customer Service centre on 871 5000 to find out more, and forms are available at the Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere libraries and from council’s Customer Service Centre in Lyndon Road.

Alternatively, nominations can be submitted online -https://www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/our-council/civic-awards
