Basketball court ready to go

bball court Small

A new full-size basketball court, free double barbecue and family-sized picnic tables have pride of place in Kirkpatrick Park.

The new facilities will be officially opened on Friday [July 13] at 1pm, with neighbourhood children and professional basketball legend Willie Burton as guests of honour.

The installation of the court and picnic area is phase two of a planned upgrade of the park. Stage one, the splash pad and revamping of the playground, was officially opened two years ago.

Hastings District councillor Bayden Barber, who holds Council’s Partnerships and Uplifting our Communities portfolio and is a former Hastings basketball representative,  said the second stage of the upgrade certainly lived up to expectations.

“Basketball is already hugely popular with kids using the neighbouring community centre, and with the youngsters at Camberley School.

“We’re especially pleased that we have the top of the range hoops, thanks to First Light Trust. Basketball is a massively growing sport in our district and I’m sure this will become a much used court.”
